The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003): Frodo and Sam, guided by Gollum, finally reach Mordor and make their way to Mount Doom to destroy the One Ring. Meanwhile, Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, and Gandalf prepare to defend Gondor’s capital, Minas Tirith, from Sauron’s massive army. They are joined by the forces of Rohan, led by King Théoden, in the Battle of the Pelennor Fields. Aragorn steps into his role as the true king of Gondor, leading a final stand against Sauron at the Black Gate. Frodo ultimately succeeds in destroying the ring, leading to Sauron’s defeat. The film concludes with the return of peace to Middle-earth and the departure of Frodo, Gandalf, and others to the Undying Lands.
